Planning my 2024 Competition Schedule

It's really exciting to see how the sport of disc golf has grown since I've started playing & competing in tournaments!

In 2021 I played in a dozen different tournaments. There were only a few local tournaments offered that I didn't sign up for. It's not even March and my Disc Golf Scene account is loaded with potential tournaments to sign up for and keep on my radar.

I'm going to kick my season off in late-April with a women's only tournament being put on by a new women's club in the area. I don't usually commit to tournaments prior to May because the weather can get a bit too cold for me- I have frostbite on both my hands and feet and when the weather dips below 50F it causes me extreme pain. But the photos & recap from last year's tournament made me sorry that I hadn't played. I just hope the weather will be decent for this year!

This year we'll have Women's Global Events taking place and there are two in my area that I'd like to play in. There's also a Canadian Women's Event in late May that I'm thinking about signing up for in Canada.

I'm committed to playing in the 2024 Syracuse Open in June. I signed up last year but dropped out because of some family issues that came up. This year, barring anything unexpected again, I'm planning to play. Hopefully some other FP40 women will sign up though! Right now I'm the only one registered and there are full cards in both FPO & FP50 divisions.

The amazing Jennifer Copp has helped to start the New York Empire Women's series this year, which is a string of events across the state that are geared towards women. That's put a few events on my radar to play that I probably wouldn't have even been thinking about. For more information about the Empire Series, you can visit the Greater Rochester Disc Golf Club's page.

There's a Disc Golf Master's Tour stop happening a few hours downstate from me at a private course called The Hillside, which I believe is opening just a week or two prior to that event. I'm keeping my eye on that one because the course sounds amazing!

I'm really trying to step out of my comfort zone and travel to a few more events this year outside my immediate area. I have one event in Ohio in August I'm thinking about, as well as AFDO (both the pro weekend & and age-protected weekend) and Greater Niagara Classic across the border in Canada.

I'm sure more events will pop up and I'll have some hard decisions to make. I've also been thinking about running a small double-elimination style women's putting tournament in my Women's Virtual Putting league group, so stay tuned for that!
